BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The University of the South Human Jukebox, Athletic Academy and Rose Hill Church have teamed up to donate $2,000 worth of turkey frying supplies to families in the need.
A total of ten families will receive a number of Thanksgiving items including a deep fryer, heat resistant gloves and seasonings, to name a few.
Additionally, the organizations chose to highlight a local family for their contribution to the Baton Rouge metropolitan area.
The late fire chief and veteran Michael Alleman served his community for decades. At the event, her family accepted a gift in her name for her dedication to helping others.
“Anyone will tell you, whatever he did, he was part of it. No one was ever behind him. He always made sure everyone was with him,” said Gail Leray Alleman.
To top off the party, the band gave a performance.
“Just playing your instrument and showing love to people goes a long way. So that’s part of that service in the community,” said Kedric Taylor, band manager of Southern University.
Pastor Danny Donaldson of Rose Hill Church says their congregation decided to participate in the selection process to choose the families who received these holiday gifts. Donaldson says it’s about teaching the importance of giving back.
“It’s a beautiful thing to not only do business in the community, but also to connect with the community,” Donaldson said.
