Shoplifter sprays pepper spray on 2 Academy Sports employees in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma City police are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspected shoplifter caught on video, apparently pepper spraying two employees before making off with stolen goods .

“She just seems to be trying to walk out the door without paying,” the Staff Sgt. Gary Knight with OKCPD.

Police report it happened at Academy Sports and Outdoors, located at 4261 NW 63rd St., on Monday, Feb. 14, at approximately 7:30 p.m.

This woman allegedly shoplifted from the Academy on 63rd NW in OKC and pepper sprayed store employees who tried to arrest her. Can you help the police identify him?

Surveillance video shows the woman walking through the store, grabbing a cart and collecting approximately $890.67 in merchandise. She is then seen walking around a dressing room with the objects.

“But that’s where everything changes,” Knight said. “She comes out in a different outfit, and these are the clothes she just pulled off the shelf.”

At this point, she is carrying an unbought hoodie and shoes, and an unpaid purse with stolen goods inside.

Police told KFOR that two suspicious employees tried to arrest her and that she allegedly sprayed the two men with pepper spray.

“She just casually pulls out a can of pepper spray, sprays the girl in the face, and then goes on,” Knight said of the victim who was seen sprayed in the surveillance video.

The shoplifting suspect doused an Academy employee with pepper spray.

Finally, the suspect is seen leaving the store. It is reported that she left in a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser.

“With the type of case this is, it tends to upset a lot of people when they watch this, see an innocent person like a store clerk come up just to try and talk someone out of paying his bill before walking out, only to get pepper sprayed in the face,” Knight said.

Anyone who recognizes the woman or has any advice is asked to call the Oklahoma City Police Department, (405) 297-1000.
