Now called Pacific Crest Online Academy, the program will accept middle and high school students from across the state
RICHLAND, Washington – A local school district that has taken advantage of the pandemic push for digital learning programs has now created a strong online academy that may soon attract middle and high school students from across Washington state.
Last year, when students were completely isolated, the Richland School District created a Kindergarten to Grade 12 e-learning program for families who didn’t want their children to return to school in person. . The option lasted during blended learning and even now with most students returning to classrooms.
This year, officials built on the success of the program as well as the district’s desire for a dedicated online learning experience. The academy applied to the state and was accepted as a multi-district online academy for grades 6 to 12, removing enrollment caps for students from outside the district.
The academy formerly known as Richland Virtual School is now Pacific Crest Online Academy, a new name approved by the Richland Board of Education that serves to attract students who do not live in the city.
District spokesperson Ty Beaver said Pacific Crest will offer more classes, clubs and activities:
- Several high school offerings, including AP and Honors courses
- Clubs, activities and other social activities
- Monthly progress reports
- Simplified e-learning platforms
âOur students, families and staff have worked hard during this inaugural school year to create an engaging, collaborative and welcoming learning environment,â said Principal Andre Hargunani. âWe are delighted to begin this next chapter of our school’s adventure and to have more to join us on the ride. “
Enrollments, according to the district, have consistently remained above 500 students; many families have registered for the next school year.
If you would like to know more, an information session via Zoom is scheduled for May 13 at 6.30 p.m. details on pacificcrestonline.rsd.edu.
Pacific Crest Online Academy is open to students in Grades 6 to 12 starting in the 2021-22 school year. Plans are underway to include K-5 down the line as well.
