Knoxville nonprofit receives $ 10,000 from Academy Sports

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WATE) – Academy Sports and Outdoors has teamed up with Laura Rutledge of ESPN to donate $ 10,000 in gift cards to a Knoxville nonprofit. Goods4Greatness was surprised by the donation on Tuesday.

Goods4Greatness provides sports equipment and covers the cost of play fees for low-income children. Executive Director Rhiannon Potkey said the donation was a total surprise.

“It’s a pretty big shock, quite emotional. $ 10,000 donated in gift cards so that we can help the children through the Academy. It’s just amazing. The biggest we’ve had for Goods4Greatness, ”said Potkey. She then called the donation groundbreaking for the nonprofit organization.

Goods4Greatness started as a Potkey high school dream over 20 years ago. She wanted everyone to be able to experience the power of sport, no matter what the financial circumstances. Now, she hopes this donation will help her extend that dream and support children in Knoxville and across the country.
