TIAA Bank Field welcomes fans throughout the season, but the Jaguars Foundation and Academy Sports & Outdoors know that not everyone can be there. With COVID-19 in mind, the organizations have teamed up to offer two season subscribers a complete “trot home” package to help recreate that game day experience in their homes.
Richard Wiles, a Jaguars subscriber for 22 seasons, recently suffered a heart attack and, due to his health, he chooses to play it safe and limit his exposure as much as possible. This means there will be no in-person Jaguars games this year.
“It was very strange, but the NFL and the Jaguars handled it well,” Wiles said. “Yes, it’s really disappointing as I’ve been a long time subscriber but due to my medical situation I couldn’t attend anyway. But my family loves it and I’ll find a way to make it happen. go next year.”
Likewise, Barbara Joyce misses her beloved Jaguars, but stays away for the benefit of those she meets in her work. A former Duval County school teacher and now a hospice worker for more than 10 years, Joyce and her therapy dog, JoJo, regularly visit patients in Jacksonville.
“I can’t go to the games, but I’m still promoting the Jaguars,” Joyce said. “We love them, we watch them on TV, we dress for them, we dress our therapy dog for them and our whole family watches games together.
Wiles and Joyce got a special delivery this week, so they’re ready for Sunday’s game in Houston. Their backyards are now teeming with everything from new smokehouses and coolers to tents, lawn chairs, garden games, tumblers, grilling spices and giant dice.
“Obviously I like the cooler for nice cold drinks as well as the smoker,” Wiles said. “My son loves to smoke food.”
For Joyce, the new setup allows her to house her family in the backyard.
“My favorite part is the tent with the chairs,” Joyce said. “Now I can get my Jaguars plates and Jaguars mugs and host a Jaguars themed BBQ outside on the porch. I appreciate it all and am tickled pink and blessed to be part of the Jaguars family. .”
While Wiles and Joyce are thrilled with their new setup, they are both eager to return next year.
“Just keep the spirit of the Jaguars in your heart,” Joyce said. “Watch the games, support them and consider becoming a Jaguars Membership next year!” »
