IBSD students receive new bikes from Sports and Outdoors Academy

Christmas arrived early this year for 37 students at the Lucas Pre-K Center after the Beaumont Sports and Outdoors Academy donated $ 2,000 to Beaumont ISD for the purchase of new bikes.

The bikes were presented Friday in a closed-door ceremony, and were handed over to students after a raffle in the school auditorium.

“We’re part of this community and we’ve been in this community for a long time,” said Chris Edwards, store manager of Academy Beaumont, after presenting the check and revealing the bike. “So when we have the opportunity to give back to such deserving children, it means everything to us that we can. “

Mellow Tatmon, Lucas’ manager, said the gesture was particularly significant given the challenges parents and families face as a result of the pandemic.

“In these difficult times facing families, I thought it was really important to reward the students who come to school every day. And we know how difficult it is, ”Tatmon said. “We are really delighted that Chris and the Academy are ready to make this donation because we know that as a whole community, we are going through a difficult time and just for them to be so generous and to take the time to show that they are care about our local community (means a lot).

The students also received helmets from other “local business partners”.

The sporting goods store has donated numerous bikes in recent years, including 30 to Guess Elementary for Christmas 2018 and 70 for students across the neighborhood in conjunction with the Beaumont Police Department during the summer of 2019 .

Edwards said he was grateful his company allowed him to participate in such donations, adding that the gifts are as much of a reward for employees as they are for children.

“When we go back to the store and show the pictures and talk, everyone comes together and understands how important this is,” he said. “We are as blessed as these children. This is really what we feel. “
