Hoxie Schools Begin K-12 Online Academy

HOXIE, Ark. (KAIT) – A school in Region 8 offers a way to earn your high school diploma completely online.

Hoxie School District plans to launch Hoxie Online Academy during the 2019-2020 school year.

It will offer an online K-12 curriculum, and students won’t have to visit the school campus.

Superintendent Kelly Gillham told Region 8 News they are still working out some details, but this will be the first online academy in northeast Arkansas.

As long as students meet the requirements, they can use school choice to enroll, and they will receive all the benefits that students who attend regular classes enjoy.

“It’s 100% free. They get a laptop, a hotspot, a curriculum and all the support a public school has to offer,” Gillham said.

Gillham said they are currently enrolling students for the upcoming school year and have students enrolling up to Ash Flat.

The board meeting to finalize everything, including the requirements students must meet, is set for June 10.
