PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Panama City continues to grow as it seeks to add new businesses to the area.
The city will add an Academy Sports + Outdoors in the former Hobby Lobby at Stanford Station Mall and a Fazoli’s Restaurant near Bay City Point Mall, among other businesses in the near future.
A resident says she thinks the addition of these businesses is really needed, she says for a while now she and many others have had to go to the beach, and it can get exhausting.
“Driving through traffic at Pier Park is horrible. When I found out Academy Sports was coming, I was excited. To get all these sports, I have a daughter who plays sports, my son when he wants to play plays so we are delighted. You don’t have to go to the hustle and bustle of Pier Park and all that traffic and all the tourists. Now we have something local,” said Jessica Houle, a local resident.
With the addition of a new restaurant like Fazoli’s, she thinks it will help give the community something different from the norm.
“It brings more people to town, it’s better for the economy. So I’m excited, I’m really excited and trying different things. Because things get old, the same restaurant, the same things every day,” Houle said.
Signs outside the future Academy Sports + Outdoors location indicate that the business will be open later this summer, with a grand opening scheduled for July 29.
It is currently unknown when exactly Fazoli’s will open.
