YMCA of Greensboro and Boys & Girls Club of Greensboro to Join in the Holiday Tradition
December 14, 2020 (GREENSBORO, NC) – The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, announced today that the organization will partner with Academy Sports + Outdoors for the annual holiday shopping with two local nonprofits. Recipients this season include the YMCA of Greensboro and the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Greensboro.
“It has been a difficult year for our community,” said Greensboro Swarm President Steve Swetoha. “However, we are really looking forward to working with Academy Sports + Outdoors for the second year in a row to support two important Triad nonprofits. The pandemic has affected us all in different ways, but this is a great opportunity to give back to communities these non-profit services for an important period of the year. ”
“Academy Sports + Outdoors is thrilled to team up with the Greensboro Swarm to spread the holiday cheer by donating $ 5,000 in products and gift cards to the YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club of Greensboro,” said Liza Barrett, Senior Regional Marketing Specialist. “These organizations do so much in the community and this is our way of helping make vacations a little easier for them and their members. ”
In order to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved, the 2020 edition of the holiday shopping will look and feel different from previous seasons.
The YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club have submitted a “wish list” of items to support their community efforts. On Thursday, December 17, a representative from each nonprofit will pick up the curbside (contactless) items from a local Academy Sports + Outdoors to bring them back to the younger members. The two organizations will also return home with a $ 1,250 Academy gift card to purchase items as needed.
The Holiday Shopping Spree, in conjunction with the NBA Giving Season, is one of the many events of the season that Swarm participates in to better serve the community.
