TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – Immediately after the Kansas City Chiefs’ win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, fans began lining up outside the Academy Sports and Outdoors in Topeka to get their hands on championship gear of the AFC.
Once the staff had everything in place, they opened the doors to sell shirts, hats and other merchandise.
“I thought there would already be a line once we got that nice lead. I didn’t want to be out in the cold any longer than necessary, ”said Jenni Meseke, one of the Chiefs’ early fans online. “We are ready to get this equipment and perform tomorrow.”
To make sure the process was safe, staff only allowed 15-20 clients at a time. Those waiting were given a QR code to check in, and when they received a text message informing them that they could enter, they showed their driver’s license and were able to start shopping.
“We have the official equipment and it’s exciting,” said Steve Saunders, store manager. “Everyone wants to ride and they want to show off that new jersey that they got. It’s pretty exciting, especially to cheer on the home team.
The Academy remained open until everyone was served, and staff said they would be receiving Super Bowl merchandise in the future as well.
