Bridgeton Urban Teacher Academy gave students a first-hand teaching experience


BRIDGETON – The Bridgeton Rowan Urban Teacher Academy has partnered with Bridgeton Public Schools to provide high school students with a teaching experience.

For two weeks in July, 16 students from Bridgeton High School participated in the Bridgeton Rowan Urban Teacher Academy (BRUTA), a pipeline program designed to provide students interested in a career in education with a glimpse into their future. as teachers.

The participating students, all from under-represented populations, met four professors from the College of Education who addressed topics such as equality versus equity, experiential learning and what it is. to be a good teacher.

Throughout the first week, potential future teachers prepared mini-lessons that they taught elementary students at Bridgeton’s Quarter Mile Lane School in the second week.
