Academy Sports + Outdoors prepares for CFP buyers amid COVID-19

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – The College Football Playoff National Championship game is just days away, as Alabama Crimson Tide takes on Ohio State on Monday night.

If Alabama is victorious, all Academy sports and outdoor activities in Alabama, except for venues in Auburn and Florence, will be open for fans to obtain their CFP merchandise. A tradition for many will always be possible, but some academies will have some adjustments this year due to COVID-19. Rather than queuing inside and outside the store, customers have to wait in their cars. Dothan Academy will put those adjustments in place if Alabama wins.

Customers will check in virtually via a QR code and be brought online by their mobile phone, email or by checking in with a member of the Academy team on site. The customer will receive a text message when it is their turn to enter and shop. The store will have 10-20 people in the building at a time.

Contact between buyers and items will also be limited.

“We’ll have an associate behind the shelves where the actual merchandise is, so customers actually point out the style they want, and then we’ll give them the size to go through the line,” Robert Satchfield, Hardlines Manager for Academy of Dothan , said. “In this way, we reduce contact with this product as much as possible.”

Social distancing inside the store will be in place.
