$300 awarded to each recipient
VICTORIA, Texas – On Wednesday, August 31, five Victoria ISD staff members received $300 gift cards to shop at Academy Sports + Outdoors. The amount of the shopping spree was $1,500.
The five recipients of the shopping spree included:
- Denis Moreno
- Jamie Saenz
- Ashley Scott
- Destiny Ybarbo
- Sarah Young
Superintendent Quintin Shepherd issued the following statement
“We’re really excited to have this partnership with the Academy, of course, and it’s part of our effort as a district to really embrace this project that we’ve been working on called Leading Towards Genius,” the superintendent of Victoria ISD, Quintin Shepherd. “So when we asked if we could open this up beyond teachers to one of our staff who wanted to name a colleague who experiences this every day, this Leading Towards Genius effort we did. We had some wonderful nominations and we are delighted to recognize these five staff members this afternoon.
Wednesday’s shopping spree is one of many organized by the Academy throughout its existence to give back to educators. All teachers and professors on campus with a valid school ID will receive 10% off their entire order in-store and online through September 5.
Sarah Young of Schorlemmer Elementary School released the following statement
“I was for sure super shocked to be chosen, but I just moved into my school’s grounds, so it will definitely give us some exciting new things to do in PE,” said Sarah Young of the Schorlemmer Elementary School. “We just launched a cheerleading program and kickball is extra money to spend on all the activities we have planned this year. It’s kind of exciting to have someone think on our behalf how special it is. to be recognized. It is very special to be recognized, especially in such a small group. We receive awards and have spoken a lot on our campus. It is very different to receive a district-wide award or distinct from that of our campus. It’s totally different and much more exciting.
